Sivane Hirsch, Ph.D., Regional Director (Quebec), Subject Matter Expert (Intersection of ethnocultural, religious, and linguistic diversity)

Sivane Hirsch is a full Professor at the Department of Education at the University of Québec at Trois –Rivières (UQTR) and the codirector of LEDIR, Laboratoire Éducation et Diversité en Region. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology and education and focuses her research and writings on the challenges of taking into account cultural and religious diversity in the educational system. Her recent studies analyze teachers’ approach to the treatment of acute political subjects in their classroom and challenges while dealing with plural experiences in history teachings, the impact of schools’ “intercultural climate” on immigrant students’ success and the documentation of the implementation of homeschooling support center within an orthodox community. She has co-authored four books and published numerous articles and book chapters on these questions, and is teaching in teachers’ training program on the Quebec’s Ethics and religious culture program and in the postgraduate program on ethical and political issues in education.
